Promotion of computer science talents among young people

The 28th Khanh Hoa Computing Contest for Young Talents was held by the Provincial Youth Union in association with the Department of Education & Training and Nha Trang University on May 27. The contest promoted interest and inspired passion for information technology among students and young people.

The contest drew 133 people across the province. The number of contestants was up by 100 compared with last year. Huynh Trung Cuong, 10th grader, Le Quy Don Gifted High School, Nha Trang City said, “This is the third year I have taken part in this contest. This is my favorite subject.”

The contestants were divided into 4 groups, including primary school, junior and senior high school students and gifted school ones. The tests varied based on groups, competing in math-problem solving approach using Free Pascal, DevC++, CodeBlock, Python and so on.

According to contestants, the test required wide knowledge and background in information technology. So it’s important to master the knowledge of each education level to be able to do well on the tests.

Hoang Le Tuan Dat, a 8th grader at Hung Vuong Junior High School, Cam Lam District said, “This is my first time at the contest. The test is quite difficult for me. I will surely continue taking the test next year as I live informatics.”

Le Nguyen Minh Son, a 10th grader of Le Quy Don Gifted High School said, “ This is the first time I have taken part in this contest. I don’t have much experience. I will make continued effort to join the event next year.”

Huynh Thi Nhu Y, Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Youth Union said that the contest is annually organized, committed to the discovery and promotion of new talents in information technology for the national digital transformation and development.

In recent years, the contest has continued receiving support from local authorities and Nha Trang University, contributing to gradually improving the quality of the contest; The number of contestants has also increased. This is the basis for the Provincial Youth Union to expand the contest to meet the interests and needs of young people.

4 first, 8 second, 12 third and 12 consolidation prizes were awarded. The first prizes went to Vu Nhu Hoang Minh (Vinh Phuoc 2 Primary School, Nha Trang) in Group A; Nguyen Thai Hung (Thai Nguyen Secondary School, Nha Trang) in Group B; Pham Dinh Trung Hieu and Nguyen Khanh Tai (Le Quy Don High School for the Gifted, Nha Trang) in Group C1; Dang Nguyen Bao (Ly Tu Trong High School, Nha Trang) in Group C2. The top 5 winners will advance to the 29th National Computing Contest for Young Talents.
