Joining effort in child care and protection

Over years, local authorities have implemented effectively child care and protection activities. In this year’s Action Month for Children, Khanh Hoa Province has continued promoting community effort in child care and protection, providing a safe and healthy living environment.

According to Nguyen Thanh Son, Deputy Director of Khanh Hoa Provincial Department of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs, over years, besides their basic rights ensured, children have received good care and protection to reach all-round development in a safe and healthy environment.

The provincial women’s Association has mobilized support, VND200,000 to 1 million for 332 orphans. 21 individuals and organizations have sponsored 23 children who lost their parents to COVID-19 with VND2-3 million/ child until they reach the age of 18 and finish college or university education.

The Women’s Association at all levels has mobilized free health care for 1,100 children under 18 within 10 years from Nha Trang UNICARE Medical Joint Stock Company with a total funding of over VND20 billion and mobilized businesses to offer hundreds of saving books and scholarships to students in need. The Provincial Women’s Association has sought donations totaling more than VND25 billion.

In addition, on national holidays, various activities have been organized across the province to provide favorable conditions for child care and protection. Since 2022, the province has offered gifts and scholarships totaling VND17 billion to more than 306,900 kids. Besides, local authorities have provided medical examination for 2,238 children with disabilities in 8 districts and towns; facilitating disease detection and early intervention, providing physical therapy for 1,152 children with mobility difficulties.

The Health sector has also performed medical examination and recommended hundreds of children’s access to surgical procedures related to the cleft lip or palate and congenital heart disease. Social service establishments in Khanh Hoa have fulfilled child care for 475 orphans and vulnerable kids.

Most of the children have received periodic health checks and compulsory education; participated in activities to develop comprehensively, get psychological counseling and life skills education; Intervention and counseling support for those exposed to violence and abuse. Numerous entertaining activities have been held for children to get a full-body workout to remain active and have enjoyable experience.

Khanh Hoa Provincial People’s Committee has issued a plan to implement the Action month for children 2023 themed “Joining hands to reduce harm to children”. Accordingly, several activities will be held towards building a safe, friendly and healthy living environment for children, ensuring their fundamental rights.

The province will boost propaganda to increase public awareness of child care and protection, providing assistance for the disadvantaged, preventing accidents and injuries; promoting and protecting children’s rights; building playgrounds, schools and boarding buildings for kids.  In addition, functional sectors will focus on organizing safe and healthy summer vacation activities for children; organize children's forums; open swimming classes and provide water safety skills and first aid training.
