Reportedly, before the accident, Ho did many jobs to look after his children. One of his jobs is providing mobile puncture repair service. Ho was seriously injured after an over-300-kiligram air compressor and motorbike fell on him in a sudden accident while he was returning home after work on March 30. He was carried to the hospital and was diagnosed with multiple injuries, including left diaphragm rupture, severe spinal cord injury, and pelvis fracture, causing him to be paralyzed.
Not having health insurance, Ho’s family had to pay a lot of money for his treatment during hospitalization, up to VND150 million. Ho’s parents who are farmers earning small income had to borrow money from many people to pay the hospital fees. Before the accident, Ho looked after his two little daughters after divorcing his wife in 2014.

“Since Ho became paralyzed, I and my husband have taken turns to look after him. We are also taking care of our two grandchildren, Ho’s daughters. We carry Ho to Ninh Hoa General Hospital by ambulance to change the urinary catheter around three to four times per month, which costs us VND500 thousand per time. We are old now, so it is difficult for us to earn money to help my son. Our only wish now is that we can afford to carry him to Ho Chi Minh City for a better treatment,” said Nguyen Thi Hai, Ho’s mother (born in 1958).
Nguyen Thanh Nhi, Chairman of Ninh Giang Ward People’s Committee, reported that the committee visited and encouraged Ho’s family. Ho has been provided social support for person with especially severe disabilities since June 2018; Ho’s mother has also been given support as Ho’s carer. In 2019, Ho’s family will be offered support for poor household. Besides, the ward will meet with the schools where Ho’s daughters are studying about offering help to the children. Nhi also hopes that people everywhere will give support so that Ho’s disease can be improved.
