Her husband has kidney failure; her only son, 12 years old, has often had frequent nosebleeds. They are living in a small house, which they rent in Suoi Hiep Commune, Dien Khanh District.
Reportedly, after being cured of cervical cancer in 2019, Hang felt pain in her right breast and discovered a small tumor. She didn’t go for a medical examination because of their financial difficulties. Up until April 2021, the tumor grew in size, causing her to feel tightness across her chest and have breathing difficulty. Hang and her husband borrowed money from their neighbors to go to Ho Chi Minh City to consult doctors at Ho Chi Minh City Oncology Hospital. The doctors prescribed Hang as having malignant lung tumor and prescribed radiation therapy to prolong her life. Hang and her husband couldn’t afford the treatment cost; therefore, they only bought medicine as prescribed by the doctors. Due to not adherence to the prescribed treatment regimen, Hang's disease has turned to the final stage; cancer cells have metastasized to her bones, which has caused her to suffer a lot of pain.

Hang does the housework and takes care of their child. Phat, Hang’s husband, is the only earner in their family. Previously, Phat worked as a seasonal excavator driver, earning VND280,000/day. Unfortunately, he had an accident at the workplace and had to be hospitalized at Khanh Hoa General Hospital. During his hospital stay, he was diagnosed to have chronic kidney failure. Afterwards, due to poor health, he could not continue working as a driver; therefore, he looked for another job and has been working as a farm guard in Suoi Cat Commune.
Their son, Ho Quoc Viet, is in 6th grade at Ngo Quyen Junior High School. Recently, Viet has often had nosebleeds, fever, convulsions, loss of appetite and weight. Hang and her husband have worried about their son’s health, but they haven’t paid off their debt of VND30 million and don’t have money to take their son to doctors.
Suoi Cat Commune is completing documents to help Hang’s family to be entitled to policies for near-poor household. The local authority has also visited and supported the family. However, the costs of treatment for the whole family is quite large; therefore, the commune hopes that benefactors and other people will offer support to Hang’s family.
