15-month-old child with congenital heart disease and her paralyzed father need help

Huynh Thi Xuan Thu's 15-month-old daughter (Binh Trung 2 Hamlet, Van Binh Commune, Van Ninh District) has congenital heart disease and clubfoot. Thu’s husband was paralyzed on one side after cerebral infarction. The whole family is now in need of help. 

Phan The Huy and his daughter Phan Trieu Vy have serious illnesses

15-month-old Phan Trieu Vy has got hand, foot and mouth disease and has just been discharged from Van Ninh General Hospital. Vy was born with clubfoot. When she was 2 months old, her father, Phan The Huy (born in 1983), suffered from cerebral infarction and heart failure, resulting in paralysis of his right side. Thu used the money they had accumulated over many years to get Huy treated. However, up to now, Huy's health condition has not improved yet; he has almost lost his memory and suffered aphasia. The burden of the family has fallen on Thu's shoulders. Another misfortune came to the family when Vy was 15 months old. She was diagnosed with congenital heart disease, which required timely surgery. Thu borrowed VND20 million to pay the hospital fees and treatment cost of her daughter. Her relatives and neighbors also offered some money to help the family. 

Thu’s family is a nearly-poor household in Van Binh Commune. Before getting ill, Huy worked as a dump truck driver, earning around VND6 million/month. Thu did housework and took care of their children. Currently, Huy is no longer able to work, making the family circumstances difficult. Phan The Hoang (born in 2004) – Thu’s eldest son, passed the entrance exam to Da Nang University of Medical Technology and Pharmacy but had to give up his dream of becoming a doctor to work as a hired laborer to help his family. However, Hoang’s earnings are unstable. Thu’s and Huy’s parents and relatives also have difficult circumstances; so they cannot offer much help to the family.  Huy and Vy need long-term treatment, which costs a lot of money. Meanwhile, their family can barely afford it.

Every month, Huy is given a social allowance of VND1.4 million for the person with extremely severe disabilities and child under 36 months old. Thu receives a social allowance of VND 400,000/month for taking care of the person with extremely severe disabilities.

As said by Nguyen Diep Le Quyen, vice chairman of Van Binh Commune People's Committee, the locality and local organizations visited and gave VND5 million deducted from the "For the Poor" Fund and VND20 million raised from public contribution to Thu’s family. The locality hope that people everywhere will offer support so that Thu’s family can overcome the difficulties.
