H.N

Ho Quang Truong (born in 2011, 7th grade student at Ly Thai To Junior High School, Nha Trang City) started to experience pale appearance, easy bruising, bleeding gums, and nosebleeds not long after starting the new school year. Truong was taken to Hue Central Hospital and was diagnosed with bone marrow failure, which requires bone marrow transplant. However, his family cannot afford the transplant cost of nearly VND1 billion.

Truong’s parents borrowed nearly VND100 million from their relatives and friends to do HLA typing to identify a marrow donor among the family members. It was a pity that the two HLA typing cycles showed that Truong’s younger sister isn’t his HLA identical match. The family’s hope is now depends on the result of the last HLA typing cycle of Truong’s parents and younger sister. Unfortunately, the HLA typing test cost exceeds the family’s financial ability.

The family’s relatives can only offer some support. Truong's father, Ho Da Linh (born in 1977), is working as a security guard for a company with an average monthly income of VND5 million. Linh is also chronically ill due to necrosis of the femoral cone, making it difficult for him to walk, but he has had no money for joint replacement surgery. Cao Thi Nhu Hoa, Truong's mother (born in 1984), works as a worker at Nha Trang Textile and Garment Jointstock Company, earning over VND5 million/month. As said by Hoa, their largest asset is a small house of less than 50m2 in a small alley in Tan Thanh Hamlet, Vinh Phuong Commune, Nha Trang City. They cannot mortgage their house to afford Truong's treatment cost because they haven’t had a certificate of land use rights yet.

According to Do Thi Nhu, Truong’s class homeroom teacher, Truong is a good student. This school year, Truong has had to be out of school for about 2 months for treatment. The school’s board of directors created conditions for Truong to study and complete the final exam of semester 1. The school has called for a donation of more than VND100 million. However, Truong's treatment costs a lot of money. Therefore, the school hope that through Khanh Hoa Newspaper, there will be more support given to Truong.

As reported by Tran Thi Thanh Huyen, vice-chairman of Vinh Phuong Commune People's Committee, the commune will consider applying appropriated social policies to Truong’s family in accordance with regulations. In addition, the commune will call for donations to help Truong be cured.
