Fatherless siblings Tran The Van (born in 2008, tenth-grade pupil at Le Hong Phong High School) and Tran Ai Vy (born in 2014, fourth-grade pupil at Van Hung 3 Primary School), in Van Hung Commune, Van Ninh District are in need of help.

Tran The Van and Tran Ai Vy have been living their aunt (born in 1969) in a small and old house in Xuan Dong Hamlet, Van Hung Commune for over 5 years. The most valuable asset in their house is the old TV. As reported by Tran Thi Hen, the aunt, the siblings’ father, Tran Van Tuan (born in 1984), died while working in the sea in April 2019, leaving behind his housewife and children.

The mother after that married another man. The siblings have lived with their aunt since then. The aunt, who is unmarried, does different kinds of jobs to earn a living and pay school fees for the siblings. During the day, she carries salt with shoulder pole, earning around VND240,000 (VND80,000/hour); at night she catches and sell crabs and clams, earning around VND100,000 to 200,000. Besides the siblings, Hen is taking care of her old mother. Van and Vy study hard to express their gratitude for their aunt’s love and hard work. Hen is getting older and older while the other relatives of the siblings are also facing difficult circumstances. Therefore, Hen wishes that the siblings can pursue their education so that they can get stable jobs in the future.

Le Hong Phong High School has created favorable conditions to support Van at school such as health insurance and school stuffs, according to Nguyen Quoc Dat, principal of Le Hong Phong High School.

Reportedly, Van and Vy’s mother is living far way from them and is suffering fatal disease. Hen and the siblings are staying at the house of Hen's youngest brother in Xuan Dong Village, so they are not eligible for the policies for a poor or near-poor household. The locality will propose that Van Hung Commune People’s Committee find solutions to help the fatherless siblings have better living conditions.
