Originated in Europe, cross-stitch is believed to have spread in Vietnam in 2005. The counted-thread embroidery has become popular in Nha Trang City, especially among young girls for the two recent years.
Different from traditional embroidery style, cross-stitch does not require much skills. Trinh Thi Thanh Thuy, the owner of a cross-stitch shop named Happy at 52/10 Yersin, Nha Trang City says, “Each cross-stitch kit includes cloth, a needle, thread and a chart. You can master your cross-stitch after only 5-10 minutes of practice.”
Cross-stitch is a popular form of counted-thread embroidery in which X-shaped stitches in a tiled and raster-like pattern. Cross-stitch is done on designs called charts printed on the fabric (stamped cross-stitch); the stitcher simply stitches over printed patterns.
The motifs vary from floral and human figures to calligraphy. You can choose a cross-stitch pictures as unique gifts or for home decoration. Adults often choose cross-stitch pictures in four panels with the wish for a peaceful year.

Cross-stitch pictures and charts for purses, handkerchiefs and so on are available at Happy Shop (52/10 Yersin), Zin Zin Shop (45 Me Linh), etc. Cross-stitch can be used to embellish items like household linens, tablecloth and doilies.
