Village patriarchs always play an important role in maintaining and promoting healthy lifestyles in the communities. The village patriarch named Cao Sa Nhan in Son Hiep Commune is among good examples.

“I always advise younger generations to study and work diligently, applying advanced technologies in agricultural practice to increase capacity,” Nhan says.

He has mobilized local farmers to turn fallow land into fertile and arable one by growing eucalyptus, coffee and durian trees. “In addition, I also take responsibility for educating and transmitting traditional cultural festivals and rituals through generations,” he added.

The village patriarch Mau Xuan Duong (Ba Cum Bac Commune) has persuaded local residents to abolish unsound customs, contributing to the strengthening of the local government and maintaining a healthy living environment. He is also seen as a mediator in disputes and a general “fixer” of individuals’ problems.

Reportedly, there are 40 village patriarchs in Khanh Son District. All of them have joined the association branches for the elderly and taken a vital part in helping build up national unity and strengthen the political and spiritual unanimity among the local people.

Village patriarch Cao Sa Nhan says, “All local residents rely on me, so I always try my best.”

With valuable accumulation of knowledge, living experience and wisdom, the patriarchs have contributed greatly to the local development.

They are good examples for younger generations to follow, helping to fight against social evils for a safe and healthy living environment.
