Handicraft products such as terra-cotta statues, brocade and sand pictures made by talent hands have attracted more tourists to Nha Trang Ponagar Temple.

With a desire to create a lively space by Ponagar Temple, Khanh Hoa Province’s Monument and Beauty Spot Management Center has allowed some handicraft stands to open here, for example Cham brocade, sand pictures of artisan Nguyen Thi Thu or terra-cotta statues of craftsman Doan Xuan Hung.

Doan Xuan Hung is one of the restorer and developer for Lu Cam Pottery of Nha Trang. His terra-cotta statues displayed at the stand are made of materials men of old used to build up towers at Ponagar Temple. He confided, “Making statues is not only my liking but my honor to the ancients. I hope my works sending a message of traditional values’ eternality.”

The stand of artisan Nguyen Thi Thu features hundreds of sand pictures about nature and people of Khanh Hoa Province. All of them are made of natural sand collected from localities in the province. Tools for painting are spoons and sharp pieces of bamboo with many sizes. Colors for painting are different colors of sand. The sand pictures jammed into frames and glasses are portable without changing their shape. Especially, there are no dye and glue in the sand pictures.

Coming to the stand, visitors will have a chance to see artisan Thu painting a picture by a sand pen. Contemplating these pictures, viewers can image a Vietnamese countryside area.

A stand of handicraft products made from aloes wood also makes deep impressions on visitors.

Each stand has different products, but they carry rural inspiration of Khanh Hoa Province.
