Ancient culture in Hon Chong

Peter de Jong and his wife, from Holland, bought a calligraphy picture here after sightseeing and taking photos. He happily said, “The pictures are so strange-looking. The seller explained that this is an arts kind of writing in your country. I choose the picture with the word meaning “mother” as a present for my mom.”

At Hon Chong Club House, calligraphy is not only written on paper but on stone or wood. They are very good-looking and impressive. Such the pictures have contributed to attract visitors here.

Calligrapher is a student majoring in shipping

It’s very surprised to know that the writer of the calligraphy pictures is a final-year student of Shipping Faculty of Nha Trang University. His full name is Nguyen Thanh Phi.

The young man, from Quang Ngai, have been keen on calligraphy since his high-school time. He shared, “I’m not schooled in calligraphy, but I’ve studied hard from elder calligraphers about it. Learning calligraphy is not difficult but to write beautifully needs a long time of practice.”

Previously, Thanh Phi and some of his friends often wrote calligraphy on Vietnamese traditional New Year occasion or did it in some resorts such as Ana Mandara and Vinpearl Land for tourists.

In two recent years, recognized talent of the young calligrapher, the provincial Vestige and Beauty Spot Management Center has had him to write calligraphy in Hon Chong Club House to serve tourists.

“We appreciate highly calligraphy works of Thanh Phi, who are young but confidential with traditional culture. Foreign tourists like his pictures very much. They make the national historical vestige Hon Chong more lively and attractive”, said Ngo My Chau, director of the provincial Vestige and Beauty Spot Management Center.
