Vietnamese famous composer Pham Duy died on January 27, 2013 in Ho Chi Minh City, one month after the death of his son Duy Quang. At 92 years of age he had been suffering heart and liver disease and gout.


 

Pham Duy (1921), real name Pham Duy Can, was a prolific Vietnamses songwriter. He is widely considered one of the three most salient and influential figures of modern Vietnamese music. Pham Duy's musical career spanned more than seventy years.  He wrote over one thousand songs which he divided into different periods: folk, heart, spiritual, profane, and children's songs.
