A pair of great vases made by carton with a dragon-shaped Vietnam map on it will be displayed during Nha Trang Sea Festival 2013, which takes place on June 6 – 11. and presented to Truong Sa Island District then.

Each vase has 2.41 meters in height, 2.2 meters in circumference, 80 cm in diameter and 60 kilograms in weight. On the body of the vase, there are a Vietnam map shaped a flying dragon whose legs clutch two archipelagoes Spratly and Paracel, a sentence “TRƯỜNG SA LÀ ĐẤT VIỆT” (Spratly belongs to Vietnam), the image of Spratly landmark and the vase’s name “Việt Nam long hình đồ” (Dragon-shaped Vietnam map). Neck and leg of the vase has beautiful lotus patterns.

Especially, all the vases are made from carton. Their surface is colored to looked like bronze.

Its maker is artist Han Quoc Dinh, born in 1959, living in Vinh Hai Ward, Nha Trang, who spent 5 months to finish the two unique vases.

“Vietnam map shaped majestic dragon of Nguyen dynasty symbols the power of the country and reminds people of the time when navy of the dynasty crosses the sea to set up our sovereignty on Spratly Islands and Paracel Islands”, Dinh explained.

These are the second pair of carton vases with dragon images Dinh has made. The first vase couple are dragon images of Ly Dynasty.

As planed, the two pairs of vases will be displayed in Khanh Hoa Provincial Museum (16 Tran Phu Street, Nha Trang) during Nha Trang Sea Festival.

After that, the pair with dragon-shaped Vietnam map will be presented to Truong Sa Island District and the others will be sold by auction to raise the fund for poor children.

To pursue the creation, Han Quoc Dinh has stopped his work in Dong A Joint Stock Company, which majors in carton production, and opened another company called Hoang Long Applied Arts Co., Ltd. to develop products from paper and carton.
