Along with cultural, tourist and sports activities, Nha Trang Sea Festival 2013 will spotlight the country’s sea and islands, especially Spratly Islands.

 

During the festival, there will be a lot of events related to the two archipelagoes Spratly and Paracel such as sea and island propaganda contest, award ceremony of “Writing about Spratly” contest, an exhibition of books on Vietnam’s sea and islands and a Spratly photo exhibition.


 

In addition, Khanh Hoa Provincial Museum will display some document and images proving Spratly and Paracel belong to Vietnam. Some remarkable things are Vietnam maps with Spratly and Paracel on it made by Western countries and maps drawing that China has no Spratly and Paracel published by China and some Western countries.

 

Le Chi Huong, director of the provincial Museum, said, “The museum has collected a lot of documentation on Spratly Islands and Paracel Islands. They will be displayed in the festival. The documentation proves Vietnam’s sovereignty to Spratly and Paracel.”

 

Additionally, the museum is the place a pair of unique carton vases with dragon-shaped Vietnam map on it made by artist Han Quoc Dinh will be displayed.

 

Photo exhibition themed “Beauty of the Aloe Wood Land” this year will comprise many photographs describing the life of people and soldiers in Truong Sa Island. For example, photographs of islands such as Nam Yet, Truong Sa Lon and Song Tu Tay will give viewers the image of Spratly Islands, partly raising awareness of the country’s sovereignty and protection for the people.

 

It’s possible to see that in comparison with previous festivals, the event this year will have more activities about sea and islands.

 

“Our ancestors sacrificed their life for the country’s sea and islands. Now, we have responsibility to protect our sovereignty on them. Sea Festival is an occasion for the people to raise the awareness and show duty to the country’s sea and lands”, said Truong Dang Tuyen, director of the provincial Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism.
