Woeful and majestic beauty

Located in the south of Thanh Bridge, facing Cai River, the monument is a work of art with images of a mother holding a soldier. Painter Nguyen Huu Bai (author of the design) designed a triangular layout (follows classical style of sculpture) to arouse the close composition between 2 characters.

The monument not only moves audiences through its expressiveness and condensation but also remind the young generation to follow the example of the predecessors.

“Each time passing by Thanh Bridge, looking at the imposing monument, I reminisce the hardships of wartime. We always remind the descendants to commemorate, be grateful to and live good lives to be deserved with their predecessors’ losses and sacrifices,” said Vo Van Nam, a war veteran in Dien Khanh Town.

Cultural and historical park

The revolutionary martyr monument in Thanh Bridge started to be constructed in an area of over 6,000m2 from August 2012 with a total investment of VND16 billion.

The main part of the project is the sole of the statue (200m2, 8.5m in height), and the statue including the one of the mother (5.5m in height) and the soldier (4.7m in length). In addition, there is a wall of relief, 15.2m in width, featuring the history of Dien Khanh District Party Committee.

Mr. Dinh Van Thieu, Deputy Chairman of Dien Khanh District People’s Committee, said “The revolutionary martyr monument in Thanh Bridge is not only a place to commemorate the Vietnamese heroic mothers and martyrs but also a cultural and historical park - a place to hold major political and cultural activities in the local and also a tourist destination for the locals and travellers.”

Expectedly, the project will finish by the end of 2014.
