Family is cradle to nurture the human values. Building cultural families is one significant factor to educate the young generation and create good citizens.

Huynh Thi Mai Suong’s family (located on Cam Thanh Nam Commune, Cam Ranh City) has been selected as cultural one for years with four generations sharing a house Being aware of the importance of family, Suong always tries to set a good example for her children and grandchildren through her daily activities. Beside taking care of her own family and “keeping the fire going”, she is also a dutiful daughter-in-law of her sickly over-90-year-old mother-in-law. “All the things I have done come from love and responsibility. I want to teach my children and grandchildren about the love and respect for each other,” Suong shared.

Pham Ngoc Quanh’s family is also one of the typical cultured families in Phu Dang Hamlet, Ninh Binh Commune, Ninh Hoa Town. Quanh descended from a peasant family having many children. When Quanh got married and had three children, he and his wife determined to invest in the education of their children. Therefore, all their three children studied well at school, and now they have stable jobs after graduation and are very dutiful to them.

Ngoc Quanh’s family selected as cultural one for ten consecutive years.

Not only taking care of the economic growth of the family, Quanh often participates actively in social activities. For nine years, he has been a semiofficial policeman who always has appropriate behaviors in his family as well as in society.

To Quanh’s family, the parents are considers as a “mirror” for the children to follow; therefore, the “mirror” needs to shine brightly in order to help the children to have good dignity.

“My parents often help the neighbors when they are sick or meet difficult circumstances. It may not have much material value, but it comes from their heart. Therefore, both neighbors and relatives love my parents. The lifestyle of my parents is a good example for us to follow,” said Pham Thi Kim Dieu, Quanh’s daughter.

According to Ngo Huong, Chief of the Family & Cultured Lifestyle Bureau, Khanh Hoa Provincial Department of Culture, Sport & Tourism, in 2013, Khanh Hoa Province had nearly 244,000 cultural families out of 300,000 households. Although the movement of cultural family is sometimes formalistic in some areas, on the whole, it has contributed significantly in raising the sense of responsibility of many families in educating the personality of young generation as well as resisting selfish lifestyle of many young people nowadays.

Today, there are many parents who are not really exemplary and pay little attention to caring and educating their children. Therefore, the children do not have a good educational environment to grow and they are easily to have incorrect behaviors.

Therefore, parents need to maintain and enhance the role and responsibility of the family in educating the children, so that family is always the cradle creating great dignity.
