The Japan Foundation Center for Cultural Exchange in Vietnam will present program “Traditional Puppet of Asia: BUNRAKU Meets ASEAN”, performing by BUNRAKU Company from Osaka, Japan, at Vietnam Puppet Theater in Hanoi on August 30, 2014.
Together with Noh and Kabuki, the Japanese puppetry is one of the most ancient forms of stage arts in Japan. It is a combination between music and art of storytelling through puppets.
The stories in the puppet shows revolve two main subjects: historical stories about the in feudal times (Jidaimono) and contemporary ones exploring the conflict arising because of social barriers (Sewamono).
