25 years since establishment, Khanh Hoa Stamp Association has strongly developed and offered many contributions in diversifying local cultural life.

Stamp movement ranks third in Vietnam

According to Bui Quang Trung, head of the provincial Stamp Association, there were nearly 20 members and two clubs at the inception. In order to promote the stamp movement in the province, the association held many activities such as exhibitions, declamation, instruction about stamp collection and stamp magazine publication.

“In the start-up period, the members met twice a month to exchange about stamps. More experienced members gave instructions to the less experienced ones; therefore, the stamp movement got more and more developed,” Trung shared.

At first, most of stamps collectors were military officials, retired policemen, doctors, teachers, etc. Since the stamp movement was expanded, it has attracted young people such as pupils and students.

At present, Khanh Hoa Stamp Association has more than 500 members and six stamp clubs, in which the outstanding clubs are Hoan Cau Stamp Club, Tre Stamp Club and stamp club of Nha Trang Teacher Training College.

Beside keeping meeting every two weeks, the clubs also organize stamps exhibitions on the occasion of large festivals like Foundation Day of the Communist Party of Vietnam, National Day and so on. The clubs’ members even hold stamp exhibitions at their own houses.

Tre Stamp Club organized contests on learning about Uncle Ho, the Vietnam Fatherland Front, youth, environment, etc. through postage stamps.

Reportedly, Vietnam Stamp Association highly appreciates stamp movement in Khanh Hoa Province which ranks third among stamp associations in the country, behind Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City.

In the past years, many stamp collectors of Khanh Hoa won numerous awards at both international and domestic stamp exhibitions. Some of those outstanding collectors are Kieu Xuan (with two stamp collections about the two world-famous doctors Pasteur and Yersin),Nguy Nhu Anh (possessing stamp collection on Uncle Ho), Nguyen Thi Minh Nguyet (collecting stamps on Vietnamese women), and Nguyen Kim Ky (owning stamps about the Communist Party of Vietnam and Uncle Ho).

Many hallmarks

Khanh Hoa Stamp Association has left many hallmarks at many big stamp exhibitions, such as exhibition of postage stamps – Central and Highlands region in 2001 with the participation of ten stamp associations across the country; exhibition about Uncle Ho’s soldiers in 2006 on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of Uncle Ho’s visit trip to Cam Ranh Bay, and exhibitions held during sea festivals.

Apart from those activities, the provincial Stamp Association also cooperated with the provincial Post Office to issue stamp sets about Dr. Yersin (1994), salanganes nest (1994), Dien Khanh Ancient City (2003), Nha Trang Bay (2005), which partly contributed to popularize Khanh Hoa’s images through postage stamps.

“We highly appreciated the activities of the provincial Stamp Association which have enriched the cultural activities in the localities. Through images on stamps, we can have some basic knowledge about the country, people, landscape, culture, economy and historical events of countries they are from. Stamp movement also helps us to preserve many precious materials,” said Truong Dang Tuyen, Director of Khanh Hoa Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism.

Reportedly, in the next tenure, Khanh Hoa Stamp Association will keep spreading stamp movement to other localities in the province, especially Cam Ranh City and Ninh Hoa Town. The association will also promote stamp movement among students and pupils.

Hopefully, with the efforts of the provincial Stamp Association, the stamp movement in Khanh Hoa Province will keep developing strongly.
