In Nha Trang, there's a husband-and-wife couple sharing a passion for collecting stamps and many of their collections are very valuable. They are Mr. Dong Luong Son, General Manager of Yasaka-Saigon-Nhatrang Hotel  and Mrs. Nguyen Thi My Kim, a lecturer at Ho Chi Minh City Open University .

Dong Luong Son, born in 1956 in Ho Chi Minh City, stared collecting stamps when he was a young boy. His passion for stamp collecting became stronger gradually. Then, he collected full sets of that period’s precious stamps, including migration stamps and Ngo Dinh Diem stamps.

However, his stamp collecting was interrupted for many years. Since 1988, working in tourism, he has more chances to travel abroad and collect stamps from the countries he has been in. His stamp collection now has comes up to over 50 thousand stamps, covering 100 albums. He extremely likes Indochina stamps and stamps of animals, especially marine animals.

His wife, Kim, an English MA, always supports his passion but she has just given interest in stamps  since March, 2014 when their children grew up and she no longer spent so much time on them.  Being good at English, she has helped his husband to arrange stamps by theme systematically.

“Despite just keeping stamp collecting as a hobby for a short time, my wife has a wide knowledge in stamps. She also often buys stamps at auctions on eBay and some other websites,” Son shared.

Recently, Son has accepted the offer from the Khanh Hoa Provincial Stamp Association to become a member of its executive board. He also has a desire to form a stamp club at Yasaka-Saigon-Nhatrang Hotel. “A stamp is a miniature artwork having a high cultural feature. Through images on it, stamps introduce historical events and the beauty of the nation they were from to the world. When attending the fairs held in other countries, I saw that people were very interested in stamp stalls for their high intellectual value. Therefore, I am very focused on forming a stamp club at the hotel. When the stamp club opens, I will encourage the hotel staff to collect stamps and hold weekly stamp markets and exhibitions,” Son added.

Son also hopes that a national-level stamp exhibition will be hold every year to create a playground for the stamp collectors at all ages across the country.

Reportedly, on the occasion of the 151st birthday anniversary of Dr Alexandre Yersin (September 22), Yasaka-Saigon-Nhatrang Hotel will open “Yersin – Yasaka stamp club”, “Fourth congress of Khanh Hoa Stamp Association” and “Exhibition on postage stamp – Khanh Hoa 2014”.
