Since having been set a limit to the number of publications, the producers have focused on improving the model and quality of the calendars. The most common model is still block calendar with various sizes (large, super large, and extremely super large). Beside the familiar themes about famous people, landscape, cuisine, flower, sayings, geomancy, the producers have paid more attention on images and information about the themes.

An Hao Company in collaboration with the Ho Chi Minh City General Publishing House released an extremely superlarge-sized block calendar about the life and career of General Vo Nguyen Giap. The 365-page calendar is almost a photo book introducing the life of the General from childhood to old age. An Hao Company also published a calendar on 365 notables in the world.

In this year’s calendar season, Spring Calendar Phuong Nam issued a superlarge-sized trans-Vietnam calendar. The calendar involves arts images of photographer Nguyen Hoang Nam, featuring Vietnamese people and landscapes. A part from numerous beautiful images, the producer gave information about each relic and landscape in order to help the viewers to feel the beauty of Vietnam.

Also on the subject of the country’s beauty, Spring Calendar Phuong Nam has an extremely superlarge-sized calendar about Vietnam’s heritages with many watercolor paintings of national relics and landscapes. The Vietnam’s nature and culture through the talented drawing of the painters has been beautifully depicted in a unique calendar.

Other producers like Hong An, Huong Trang and Dai Nam, etc. also have released calendars basing on the theme of country’s beauty.

In the field of sheet calendars, Spring Calendar Phuong Nam has also issued many newfangled calendars, including calendar on Vietnam’s seven most beautiful islands seen from above and lighthouses in Dai Lanh, Ke Ga, Ly Son, Son Tra, Vunt Tau, and so on.

The goat, the zodiac sign of 2015, is absent in all of New Year calendars. The producers have also not made calendars about the beauties, cars and houses due to the change of consumers’ taste. Nha Trang market also sees an absence of small-sized and medium-sized flimsy calendars.

At present, most of customers visiting bookstores, supermarkets, etc. are interested in New Year calendar; however, they have just window shopped. According to Tran Thai Nhan, store manager of Tan Tien Book Supermarket, the calendar market usually becomes vigorous since the second half of November.

Nowadays, together with the development of society, the calendar is not only a device to count time periods but also a cultural product having many meanings.
