Visiting a fair selling hundreds of antiques and old things during Tet holiday, people have opportunity to discuss the cultural feature or stories relating to those unique things.

On the occasion of New Year 2015, Nha Trang Antique Club held an antique fair at Khanh Hoa Provincial Museum on February 23 (the 5th of lunar month). Members of the club brought to the fair numerous antiques and old things, such as porcelain plates of Minh, Thanh dynasty (China), porcelains of Nguyen dynasty, Chu Dau pottery, articles of Bat Trang pottery, pottery statues of the Southern, etc. Member Le Quang Lam joined the fair with his collection of old things, including radio, typewriter, bicycle, watch, and thermos. The price of those things varied from VND100 thousand to VND6 million.

Despite being influenced by the time, these antiques and old things have still remained their own characteristic. The viewers could see the manipulating skills, taste of art and the habits in using things of people in the past. Each object had its own story or its owner’s story. Some objects descended through two or three generations while some ones were bought from scrap iron stores.

Many tourists visiting the provincial Museum showed interest when seeing familiar things such as Peugeot bicycle, outdated desk lamp, soldier’s water-bottle, etc.

Nguyen Thu Hue (Phuong Sai, Nha Trang) asked the seller to sell her an old typewriter. “I used to work as a typist. The sound of the typewriter had been familiar to me for many years, so sometimes I miss that familiar sound. Therefore, I want to buy this typewriter as a keepsake,” said Hue.

In the cheerful atmosphere of first days of New Year, both sellers and buyers traded with a gentle manner. The sellers used the money earned from selling the objects which had low price to raise fund for Nha Trang Antique Club.

Joining the antique fair, the collectors in Nha Trang City had opportunity to exchange and satisfy the passion for antiques. The laymen visiting the fair also felt interested when contemplating the antiques and old things, helping them to learn more about the nation’s traditional culture.

Dao Hoa, head of Nha Trang Antique Club hoped that the organization of this antique fair would partly help to attract more people to conserve the cultural heritages.

In addition to the antique fair held on New Year occasion, Nha Trang Antique Club also has periodical meetings every month. According to Dao Hoa, if conditions permit, the club will hold more fairs and invite collectors from other provinces to join.
