Cultural festival of Vietnamese ethnic groups in Khanh Hoa: bold traditional features

The cultural festival of Vietnamese ethnic groups 2015 in Khanh Hoa Province has been organized by Khanh Hoa Provincial Department of Cultural, Sports and Tourism in association with Ninh Hoa Town People’s Committee. The festival was joined by more than 500 artisans, artists and athletes of five groups of Khanh Son, Khanh Vinh, Cam Lam, Cam Ranh and Ninh Hoa.


On April 17, a large number audiences crowded at Ninh Hoa Town Center of Culture and Sports to watch sports activities, such as cross-country, stilt walking, rod pushing, crossbow shooting and tug of war. The tremendous cheer from the audiences created an ebullient festive atmosphere.

Y Ngan (Ninh Hoa team) said that he spent nearly one month to practice rod pushing. This sport not only requires good strength but also skill and proper posture of legs. “Taking part in the festival, I know more about the unique cultural features of Vietnamese ethnic groups. It also helps me to have more friends,” Ngan added.


Besides sports activities, the festival also saw a musical program with many items featuring the ethnic minorities’ traditional culture through clothes, music and dance.


According to Mau Xuan Diep, artisan of Khanh Son group, although the life of the ethnic groups have been progressed, the old people in the ethnic communities have still taught young ones to play traditional games and preserve traditional rituals.


Within the framework of the cultural festival of Vietnamese ethnic groups 2015, the provincial Cultural Center also held a photo exhibition, displaying over 70 arts photos showing the beauty of nature, culture and people in Khanh Hoa Province.


The festival not only honored traditional cultural features of ethnic minorities in Khanh Hoa Province but also promoted the community to preserve those features.
