According to Nguyen Duc Tien, member of “Camera tinh te Nha Trang” Group, light painting is a combination of photograph, painting and light. Light painting is a photographic technique in which long exposure photograph is taken with hand-held light sources (torch, LEDs, candles, etc.) in a dark place. In order to do light painting, the photographer needs a few essential pieces of equipment, including a camera with exposure capability (the best one is a digital camera with manual controls), a wide-angle lens, a tripod, light painting brushes (torch, LEDs, fireworks, glow stick, etc.).
In order to have a beautiful photo, the photographer should adjust the camera’s settings to match the speed of the light painter, Tien added.
Reportedly, the most difficult thing in light painting is the cooperation between the photographer and the light drawer. Both of them have to adjust the time of photographing and drawing so that they both end their job in the same time. The photos’ beauty mostly depends on the light drawer.
According to Hoang Xuan Diep, a member called “light painter” of “Camera tinh te Nha Trang” Group, in order to do drawing or writing, the light drawers needs to feel what he is drawing or writing. The dexterousness is also an essential element to create a beautiful light painting photo.
The photos taken by light painting often make viewers and even the photographers to feel surprised and interested thanks to their unique and strange-looking characteristics. “They are very beautiful and impressive. I am very surprised that there is such a type of photography,” said Le Quoc Thanh (Nha Trang City) while watching members of “Camera tinh te Nha Trang” Group practicing light painting.
With its attractive characteristics, light painting has been chosen as an interesting way to release stress from life.
