In order to response the 2015 Sea Festival, Nha Trang Institute of Oceanography will hold an exhibition about the knowledge and lovefor the country's seas and islands. The exhibition is expected to provide the public maritime knowledge which helps to promote the love for teh country's sea and islands.

The Sea Festival is an opportunity to promote and introduce information as well as love for the sea and islands to the public, especially young people. Therefore, on the occasion of the Sea Festival, Nha Trang Institute of Oceanography has organized a lot of meaningful activities relating to the sea and islands. For example, in 2011, the institute opened an area displaying hundreds of maps, images and objects, etc. of resources of the Spratly and Paracel Archipelagos. The displaying area also included many maps issued by Vietnam and foreign countries, asserting the sovereignty of Vietnam over the two archipelagos, attracting the attention of both domestic and foreign tourists.

With the exhibition, Nha Trang Institute of Oceanography hopes to promote and enhance the knowledge and love for the country’s sea and islands.

Referring to the meaning of the exhibition, Associate Professor - PhD Vo Si Tuan, Head of Nha Trang Institute of Oceanography said “We chose this subject because we thought that people need maritime knowledge to understand and love seas and islands. It requires knowledge to exploit maritime resources, assert the sovereignty and well control the nation’s sea and islands.”

The other parts will show Vietnam’s traditional fishing equipment, maritime catastrophes, and human activities causing harmful effects to marine environment. The last part of the exhibition will introduce about the sea and island culture in the Central with the model of the shrine of Whale, fish prayer festival.

Especially, the exhibition will display a stamp collection of nearly 1,000 stamps on marine biodiversity, presented to Nha Trang Institute of Oceanography by Professor – PhD Yasuwo Fukuyo, former lecturer of Tokyo University. Reportedly, Professor – PhD Yasuwo Fukuyo is a leading expert on toxic algae and has cooperated and supported Nha Trang Institute of Oceanography for many years. He offered his stamp collection to the institute with the hope to share his passion for collection and love for nature and sea with the viewers.

The institute will open free for visitors during Sea Festival (from July 11 to 14). “I hope that the exhibition will bring excitement to the viewers and contribute to increase the awareness of Vietnamese about the sea and maritime resources,” said Associate Professor - PhD Vo Sy Tuan.
