Preserving and upholding traditional cultural values and building up the solidarity among the ethnic communities in the locality are the elements partly contributing to build up the cultural life in Khanh Son District (Khanh Hoa).

Preserving and upholding traditional cultural values and building up the solidarity among the ethnic communities in the locality are the elements partly contributing to build up the cultural life in Khanh Son District (Khanh Hoa).

Ta Nia, an outstanding hamlet

The cultural village in Ta Nia Hamlet (Son Trung Commune), which used to be presented certificate of merit by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, is now not inferior to the ones in the flat area. For example, the village has been concreted; the field irrigation canals have been solidly built; electricity and clean water have been supplied to the houses; many spacious houses have been built, and so on.

Many localities in Khanh Son District have maintained ma la performing groups.

“The good relationship among people in the village together with the solidarity between Kinh people and Raglai people are the crucial elements in the development of the village. We have built up economic development models and clubs offering financial supports to do business, which has helped the households to have an economic stability,” said Mau Xuan Hanh, head of Ta Nia Hamlet.

Since 2003, Ta Nia Hamlet’s cultural village promulgated the rules of conduct, such as preserving manners and custom, handling property theft, preserve security and order, build up good relationships among the communities, protect the ecological environment, maintain family happiness, etc.

In order to build up an abundant and wholesome spiritual and cultural life, the village has maintained musical group. Besides, every year, Khanh Hoa Cinema Center organizes roving film programs; Hai Dang Song and Dance Troop, Khanh Hoa Provincial Traditional Arts Theatre hold music-arts programs to serve the locals.

Positive changes of other localities

Apart from Ta Nia Hamlet, many hamlets in Khanh Son District have had positive changes, such as Hon Dung (Son Hiep Commune), Cam Khanh (Son Lam Commune), Lien Hoa (Son Binh Commune), etc.

According to Nguyen Phuoc Khiem, Head of Khanh Son District Bureau of Culture – Information, in the past five years, the district made many efforts to implement the movement “All people unite to build up the cultural life”. The district promoted the propaganda program to raise the awareness of people about building up cultural life; mobilized the locals to engage actively in eliminating social evils and superstition. Many national cultural values, especially the ones of the Raglai, have been preserved and upheld. The leaving tomb ceremony of the Raglai was recognized as a national intangible cultural heritage by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism. Many localities in the district have maintained musical groups, especially ma la performing groups, to perform at the festivals.

Nowadays, Khanh Son District has one district-level center of culture – sports, five traditional long houses; all communes in the district have public studying center; 2 out of 8 communes have cultural house; 25 out of 31 hamlets and population groups have public activity house.

Although having gotten some positive results, Khanh Son District still have many difficulties in building up cultural life. In the upcoming time, the district will continue to implement activities to promote the movement “All people unite to build up the cultural life”.
