Khanh Hoa Provincial Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism has just held the awarding ceremony of Khanh Hoa fine arts award for children 2015. This year’s award saw an increase of entrants (390 units) compared to 2014 (358 units) and a decrease in number of entries (49,763 works) compared to last year (52,177 works). Nha Trang, Van Ninh, Cam Ranh and Cam Lam were the localities which sent more works to the contest than other localities.

In recent days, the exhibition of Khanh Hoa fine arts award for children 2015 has attracted the attention of many parents, pupils and fine arts teachers. “I like painting very much. There are many beautiful pictures at the exhibition. I especially like the paintings of seas, islands and villages,” said Tran Nguyen Dong Phuong, third grade pupil at Vinh Truong Elementary School, Nha Trang City.

“Although the number of entries is fewer than 2014, the works have a better quality. A part from Nha Trang, some localities like Cam Ranh and Van Ninh made a careful preparation for the contest, shown through the quantity and quality of the entries. The quality gap in paintings of children in the cities and children in rural areas has been narrowed significantly. While children living in the cities show their skills in layout and brushstroke, the ones in rural and mountainous areas have strength in portraying and coloring,” said Le Van Hoa, Deputy Director of Khanh Hoa Provincial Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism.

Thanks to the improvement in the paintings’ quality, the organization board decided to increase the number of prizes by 150 compared to 2014. There were 375 works of children at three age groups (nursery school, elementary school, secondary school) given prizes. The organization board selected 75 paintings winning golden prizes to display at the provincial Children’s House (62 Thai Nguyen, Nha Trang). Through the exhibition, the viewers can see the diversity of paintings’ materials (pastel, acrylic, wax crayon,) and themes (landscape, daily activities, animal, study, etc.).

“There is variation in the themes of paintings at this year’s award. Many paintings have unique layouts. Most of the entrants used suitable colors and papers and made beautiful color combinations. Especially, many children put their love towards the relatives and the soldiers in the Spratly Islands as well as messages about environmental protection into their paintings,” said painter Bui Van Quang, head of the jury board of Khanh Hoa fine arts award for children 2015.

In seven years of organization, Khanh Hoa fine arts award for children has created a useful playground for the children who love fine arts and also promoted the painting activities in the schools, children’s houses in the province. The attractiveness of the contest has been shown through the increase in number of participating units. The paintings’ quality has been increasingly high and the interference of the adults in children’s paintings was reduced.
