The tugging ritual and game of Vietnam has just been inscribed on UNESCO's Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, according to the tenth session of the Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage taking place in Windhoek, Namibia from 30 November to 4 December 2015.
The tugging ritual and game of Vietnam has just been inscribed on UNESCO’s Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, according to the tenth session of the Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage taking place in Windhoek, Namibia from 30 November to 4 December 2015.
The tugging rituals and games are enacted in the rice-farming cultures of East Asia and Southeast Asia in order to ensure abundant harvests and prosperity. In Vietnam, this ritual and game is carried out regularly in Lao Cai Province, Vinh Phuc Province, Bac Ninh and Hanoi.
Reportedly, tugging rituals and games were nominated by Cambodia, Philippines, Republic of Korea and Vietnam.
