Painter Dau Quang Thanh was born in Ha Tinh Province. He moved to Nha Trang after graduating from Hue University – College of Arts, Faculty of Painting. He started his career as a street portrait painter, and then he drew calligraphy paintings, oil paintings, and pebble paintings.

“While travelling, I saw a lot of pebbles in different shapes in the streams and rivers. Therefore, I thought of trying to paint on the pebbles,” said Thanh.
 
According to Thanh, drawing 3D paintings on pebbles requires the painters to be patient, scrupulous in order to get 3D effect and create beautiful and lively paintings. This job also requires creativeness. The painter needs observe the shape of the pebbles, uses his imagination and decides what he wants to paint it. Sometimes a pebble's shape lends itself to a particular image.

Beside landscape paintings, Thanh often draws and paint animals. He can create about three to five paintings per day. The price of the painted pebbles ranges from VND50.000 to VND300.000 per painting, depending on the size and theme.
 
Thanh’s 3D painted pebbles have recently attracted the attention of many people. Many of his lively paintings have been shared through social media websites. “When I first saw 3D paintings painted on the pebbles, I was impressed and interested in them because of their unique. Therefore, I bought some paintings to display at my house,” said Nguyen Xuan Vuong, Vinh Ngoc Commune, Nha Trang.
 
According to painter Tran Ha, Vice Chairman of Khanh Hoa Provincial Association of Literature and Arts, the 3D paintings painted on the pebbles have been quite popular in many places in the world. However, this type of arts has still been quite new in Vietnam. Thanh has been known to be the first painter in Nha Trang painting on pebbles.
