Cooperation and research

In 1989, Khanh Hoa Province and Khanh Hoa Museum were re-established. Since being established as Phu Khanh Provincial Cultural and Information Service until becoming a local museum of research, Khanh Hoa Museum has constantly developed and asserted its position with many encouraging achievements in preserving and upholding the province and country’s values of cultural heritages.

“In order to add up the objects to display at the museum, the museum has planed to cooperate with the scientific researching organizations in the Central and foreign countries. In recent years, the museum associated with Vietnam Institute of Archaeology and Japan’s Waseda University, etc. to excavate many archaeological sites and discovered some ancient cultures in Khanh Hoa, such as Xom Con, Sa Huynh and Dong Son as well as the cultural exchanges of ancient people in Khanh Hoa. Through the cooperative programs, the museum collected thousands of objects bearing cultural and historical value; plenty of material which has helped the research on Khanh Hoa’s history and culture to be more adequate and accurate,” said Nguyen Tam, Deputy Manager of Khanh Hoa Provincial Museum.

Additionally, the museum has also encouraged and stepped up the scientific researches on archaeology and museology. Specifically, the museum’s staffs have taken part in many projects and researching works; published many publications about local history and culture, which have been the bases for the management, planning, researching, displaying and contributed to raise the public’s awareness of cultural heritage protection.

Closely connected with cultural and tourism development

Reportedly, in recent years, Khanh Hoa Museum has associated with other museums in the country to organize exhibitions on antiquities and cultural heritages in order to serve the locals, tourists and political works in the locality. Besides, the museum formed Nha Trang Antique Club with more than 20 members. The antique club has coordinated with the provincial Ornamental Creature Association to hold themed displays and antique fairs, which have partly honored the artisans and collectors.

At present, Khanh Hoa Museum has 10,000 objects and documents, in which there are many precious ones such as bronze drum collection, ancient money, jewelry and pottery. In the future, the museum needs to connect more closely with the development of local culture and tourism. Regarding to the development of Khanh Hoa Museum, many researchers suggested the province build a new museum in order to hold larger scale exhibitions. “Khanh Hoa has many tourism potentials. The province has recently carried out many excavations and discovered a lot of precious antiquities. Therefore, it requires a modern museum to help the visitors to learn about the history and culture of the aloe wood land,” said Associate Professor – PhD Lam Thi My Dung (Hanoi University of Social Sciences and Humanities). At the 40th establishment ceremony, Khanh Hoa Museum also proposed Khanh Hoa Province builds the new museum as soon as possible.
