Khanh Hoa Press Awards 2016 honored many excellent works which have produced effective social effects as well as honored outstanding journalists who discovered, reflected promptly and truly many hot issues of life.

The press awards 2016 included 133 works of many types of journalism: print journalism (106 ones), broadcast journalism (19 works), radio journalism (4 works), electronic journalism (1 work), photojournalism (3 works), made by both amateur and professional journalists. The entries had multiform and diverse contents, made in the formed of reportage, investigation, examples of good people and good deeds, interview, etc. Especially, there were many entries about the Spratly Islands.

Khanh Hoa Press Awards 2016 received the entries not only from the journalists and members of the press agencies in the province but also from the newspapers and magazines in the Central, such as Vietnam News Agency, Labor Newspaper, Youth Newspaper, Cultural Newspaper, Tourism Magazine of Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnamese Agricultural Newspaper and Young Pioneer Newspaper.

The works of print journalism constituted the most number of entries in comparison to other types. Many journalists followed a subject for a long period of time and produced high-quality works. The entries covered plenty of fields, including tourism, environmental protection, education, construction, and so on. Some works reflected quite deeply the daily life of the soldiers on the Spratly Islands.

This year’s awards saw a decrease in number of electronic journalism and photojournalism compared to last year.

In the radio – broadcast journalism category, the journalists reflected many problems of life, such as tourism, water shortage, overloaded vehicles, elements affected environment and tourism, food safety, prevention and control of dengue and vika virus. The quality of works of radio – broadcast journalism was evaluated to be better than previous years. The two reportages on the disguise of multi level marketing and community’s interest from beach parks, which needs to be protected, were given highest prize.

Beside the achievements, there have still been some matters which need to be improved. For example, there were only a few entries themed about learning and following the moral example of President Ho Chi Minh, remote areas, poverty reduction, agricultural industrialization and urbanization. The quality of print journalism works was not as good as the previous years.

“Khanh Hoa Press Awards has encouraged and given driving force for the journalists to work hard and make excellent works. The 2016 awards ceremony bears a great meaning as it takes place on the occasion of the anniversary of Vietnamese Revolutionary Journalism Day. This is an opportunity to honor the active contributions of the journalists in the province and province-base press agencies,” said Doan Minh Long, Executive Committee Member of Vietnam Press Association, Chairman of Khanh Hoa Press Association, Chairman of the Jury Council of the 2016 press awards.
