At the 13th provincial Public Art Festival (July 19-22), the performances bearing traditional cultural features of Khanh Vinh were highly evaluated. Not only at this festival but also in most of public music festivals, the teams of Khanh Vinh have always expressed their own characters through the items. Beside the culture of Raglai people, the traditional culture of Khanh Vinh District also comprises of the ones of T’ring, E De, Tay, etc. “We have always encouraged the locals to preserve the cultural characters, especially the musical instruments, folk songs and traditional festivals,” said Le Van Cuong, Head of Khanh Vinh District Bureau of  Culture and Information.

In recent years, Khanh Vinh District has opened many classes teaching the local officials Raglai language; encouraged the localities to re-establish ma la groups and collect folk songs, and so on. Until now, all the communes and towns in Khanh Vinh District (Khanh Hoa Province) have ma la groups; Khanh Hiep and Khanh Thuong Communes have groups playing ma la and gong (musical instrument of E De people). Apart from motivating the ethnic people to maintain traditional festivals, the district’s cultural industry encouraged the artisans (Cao Van Nghiep, Cao Van Ly (Khanh Binh) , Y Oanh, Y Dun (Khanh Hiep), etc.) to teach young people ma la and gong.

In order to promote the preservation and upholding of traditional culture, the district’s cultural industry organized many cultural activities, such as district’s public art festival, cultural day of Vietnamese ethnic communities, and festival of propaganda.

“Khanh Vinh District Center of Culture and Sports has always encouraged the localities to hold programs about traditional cultural features, in which Khanh Vinh focuses on E De culture; Khanh Trung and Khanh Nam pay attention on Tay people’s culture; other localities focus on Raglai and T’ring culture. Therefore, the cultural festivals have had diverse cultural colors, which interested audience and helped to raise awareness of the people about traditional cultural preservation,” said Huynh Cong Nhan, Director of Khanh Vinh District Center of Culture and Sports.

Beside the good results, there have still been many difficulties to preserve of traditional culture in the mountainous areas in general and Khanh Vinh in particular, especially the lack of funds.

Reportedly, the Khanh Vinh District has been directing the communes in the locality to uphold more efficiently the role of the local artisans.
