Khanh Hoa Journalists' Association focuses on improving members' expertise

Through many activities held in the 2011-2016 tenure, Khanh Hoa Provincial Journalists' Association has effectively showed the role of a political, social and professional organization in creating a favorable working environment for the journalists. Especially, the association has paid a special attention on improving the members' professional competence.

Many activities to improve expertise
 
Khanh Hoa Provincial Journalists’ Association now has 245 members working at eight affiliated units. In the tenure of 2011-2016, Khanh Hoa Provincial Journalists’ Association cooperated with the press agencies in the province to send 25 journalists to the training courses held by Vietnam Journalists’ Association and the ministries. The association also organized three seminars themed about the ethic of journalists in conveying information, Vietnam’s revolutionary journalism over 90 years, journalism and businesses in the integration period.
 
“The seminars held by Khanh Hoa Provincial Journalists’ Association partly helped the journalists in the province, especially young ones, to have more knowledge to enhance the professional competence. Beside the theoretical issues, the share of practical experience is very useful for the journalists,” said journalist Ton Nu Thanh Binh.

Additionally, the Journalists’ Association of Khanh Hoa innovated the content and form of “Khanh Hoa’s Journalists” special issue. For example, the articles focused on reflecting the outstanding activities of the association and professional exchanges among the journalists; updating readers on news of province’s economic and social activities as well as events and journalism over the world. The association also held meetings and exchange programs with the missions from other domestic localities and some countries like Thailand, China and Korea. In 2013, Khanh Hoa Provincial Journalists’ Association successfully hosted the National Press Conference.
 
Implementing activities synchronously
 
Apart from the activities held actively, in recent years, there have not been many training classes and field trips for the association’s member due to limited funds. In the next tenure, the association will implement activities synchronously in order to improve the quality of journalism, according to journalist Doan Minh Long, Chairman of Khanh Hoa Provincial Journalists’ Association.

Accordingly, the association planed to host the Central Press Conference; cooperate with the journalists’ association of Vietnam and other localities in the Central and South-Central to organize training classed on the expertise in journalism. Under the approval of the provincial Party Committee, the provincial Journalists’ Association will work jointly with Academy of Journalism and Communication, provincial School of Politics to open second degree journalism classes for the bachelors of the provinces and cities in the Central and Highlands.

The other activities which the association intends to carry out include forming other journalism clubs; opening photography classes for young journalists and intensive training classes on broadcast journalism, electronic journalism, and multimedia journalism for the officials, reporters and editors of the press agencies.
 
Beside organizing press contests and songwriting contests about the Spratly Island, the association will propose to hold the press contests themed on learning the moral example of President Ho Chi Minh; building new rural areas, and tourism. In addition, the encouraging funds for high quality journalism works is planned to be used effectively. The field trips will also be organized more so that the journalists can create more quality works.

“Every year, we intend to form a mission to exchange experience with the journalists of other localities in the country. We will also propose to Vietnam Journalists’ Association to send members to some Asian countries for learning and exchanging experience,” said Doan Minh Long.
