Last year, the provincial Association of Literature and Art held plenty of activities which connected the association’s members and stimulated their creativity. Specifically, the association organized fine art exhibitions to celebrate New Year 2016 and 14th Vietnam Poetry Day; held seven field trips for nearly 100 members to the provinces in the South Central and Highlands; cooperated with the Supporting Center for Composition (Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism) to hold composition camp for the writers and painters at Da Nang City Composition House. Besides, the association used the supporting funds for literary and art creations effectively to help 17 members to issue works.
Screenwriter Nguyen Sy Chuc and folk cultural researcher Tran Kiem Hoang made scientific researches on preserving and upholding the art values of bai choi (Vietnam’s traditional art form) and proverbs of Raglai people in Khanh Hoa. Especially, the scientific research about Khanh Hoa’s folk literature being carried out in nearly two years by Le Khanh Mai and her colleagues was highly appreciated by Khanh Hoa Provincial Scientific Council.
Also in 2016, the members of Khanh Hoa Provincial Association of Literature and Art published many noticeable works and got encouraging results. For example, with a research on the thatched cottages in Khanh Hoa, folk cultural researcher Vo Trieu Duong was given second prize by the Association of Vietnamese Folklorists; researcher Ngo Van Ban was rewarded for his work on Vietnamese portrait.
Khanh Hoa’s stage artists also gained outstanding achievements, including silver medal for the work “Chuyen tinh ben thap co” (love affair by ancient tower) of Khanh Hoa Provincial Traditional Arts Theatre; golden medals and silver medals for artists’ excellent performances at the National Competition on Classical Drama and Folk Drama 2016; B prize of screenwriter Nguyen Sy Chuc and solo puppet artist Van Hoc.
In the field of fine art, sixteen works of Khanh Hoa were selected to display at the Fine Art Exhibition of the Southern Central and Highlands 2016, in which the work of painter Tran Ha, themed about folk tune, was awarded consolidation prize. Whereas, the photographic artists of Khanh Hoa like Vu Ngoc Hoang, Do Tuan Ngoc and Bui Mai Thien achieved high prizes at the domestic artistic photography festivals. Photographer Bui Mai Thien also won one gold, one silver and one bronze at the international photography contests held in Armenia, Greece and India.
Reportedly, in the future, Khanh Hoa Provincial Association of Literature and Art will try to raise funds to organize more and more exhibitions and art programs. As planned, the association will hold the 2017 Vietnam Poetry Day at 2-4 Square, Nha Trang instead of at the association’s head office as in the previous years.
