Hai Dang Song and Dance Troop arranged two art programs for the First Senior Officials’ Meeting (SOM1) and APEC Deputy Finance and Central Bank Deputies’ Meeting. All the art items to serve APEC 2017, especially Cham dances, traditional musical instrument solos and ensembles, feature the typical cultural characteristics of Vietnam in general and Khanh Hoa in particular. According to bamboo flute artist Van Tan, it is an honor for the artists of Hai Dang Song and Dance Troop to perform at the events of APEC; therefore, they practiced actively to bring good performances and introduce Vietnam’s culture to the delegates.
Apart from the art programs, on the occasion of APEC’s events held in Nha Trang, the cultural department of Khanh Hoa also holds photo exhibitions at five hotels which are the venues of APEC in Nha Trang, including Sheraton Nha Trang, InterContinental, Yasaka-Saigon-Nhatrang, Sunrise, and Liberty Central. As reported by Nguyen Phuong Dong, Director of Khanh Hoa Provincial Cultural Center, the center proposed 150 art works to the 2017 APEC Secretariat, Subcommittee on Propaganda and Culture. 45 photos out of these 150 ones together with 20 other ones provided by APEC Secretariat were selected to display at the hotels. The exhibited photos are about culture and society, economy and infrastructure, tourism and landscape.
The traditional festivals, culture of Raglai people (an ethnic group in Khanh Hoa), “Tuồng” (Vietnamese classical drama), traditional crafts (bronze casting, palm-leaf conical hat making, girdle cake making), cultural-historical monuments (Ponagar Temple, Nha Trang Cathedral, Dien Khanh Ancient Citadel, etc.) are among the typical cultural features of Nha Trang-Khanh Hoa being introduced to the APEC delegates through the photos. Additionally, the natural beauty, tourism potentials and the dynamism of Khanh Hoa’s economy are also reflected through the exhibitions.
Also on this occasion, the province’s culture department issued a book and a DVD about Khanh Hoa to offer to the delegates of APEC 2017 in Nha Trang. Speaking at a meeting with the press on February 17, Deputy Head of the APEC 2017 National Secretariat's Standing Committee Nguyen Minh Vu appreciated the good preparation of Khanh Hoa for APEC 2017.
