A Chau Folk Arts Theatre: cultural rendezvous in Nha Trang

After more than six months into operation, A Chau Folk Arts Theatre (No. 62 Thai Nguyen Street, Nha Trang) has become an interesting cultural rendezvous for tourists in the beach city. The theatre's dancing items which featuring the folk culture of Vietnam and some neighboring countries have left nice impression on the audience.

The theatre’s hall has a capacity of 560 seats; is equipped with a good quality sound and lighting system and a giant LED screen (200m2). At present, the show time starts at 7:30pm every night. Within 60 minutes, the artists and performers of A Chau Folk Arts Theatre perform 12 elaborately staged items which are imbued with the cultural identities of each region in Vietnam and some countries.

The charms of Vietnamese women are shown through dance moves of the female artists dressing in Ao Dai and palm-leaf conical hats (non la). The sound of Vietnam’s traditional musical instruments is also an interesting part of the performance. The audience can also feel the spirit strength of Vietnamese people in Hung Kings time thanks to the dynamic dance moves and vibrant music in “Vietnamese soul” item. The lotus dance, which is performed rhythmically with lissome movements, shows the beauty of lotus, the flower symbolizing the pure soul, spirit and vitality of Vietnamese. The dancers in lotus-inspired costumes move gracefully in harmonious sounds arouse in the audience many emotions.

The performances of A Chau Folk Arts Theatre are staged to reflect clearly the distinctive cultural characteristics of the regions in Vietnam. The “Vietnamese drum” item suggests the identity of the northern plain. “Hue in our heart” is an item about ancient land of Thua Thien Hue Province. The grandeur of the Highlands is reflected through “The sounds of Highlands”; “Po Nagar Cham culture” introduces the audience the culture of Cham people and is suggestive of Ponagar Temple in Khanh Hoa.

The backgrounds used in the performances, filmed by the fly cam are another highlight in the items of A Chau Folk Arts Theatre. Many beautiful landscapes throughout Vietnam are integrated in each item contribute to make the performances to be more attractive. The audience can see the images of the terraced rice fields in the Northwest, Hoan Kiem Lake (Sword Lake) in Hanoi, Ha Long Bay, sandy beaches in the Central and rivers in the South, etc. The intertwinement of music, dancing movements and images helps the audience to feel the peacefulness and cultural features of Vietnam.
