Khanh Hoa's fine art: looking forward to improvement

There are 13 paintings of Khanh Hoa painters being selected to display at the fine art exhibition of the South Central and Highlands in Quy Nhon City in August 2017. This is good news for Khanh Hoa's fine art. However, there are still many things to do in order to promote the fine art activities in the Khanh Hoa.

There are 13 paintings of Khanh Hoa painters being selected to display at the fine art exhibition of the South Central and Highlands in Quy Nhon City in August 2017. This is good news for Khanh Hoa’s fine art. However, there are still many things to do in order to promote the fine art activities in the Khanh Hoa.

Khanh Hoa has been one of the localities in the Central and Highlands where the fine art has been developed quite well. Many painters of Khanh Hoa, for example Bui Van Quang, Le Tri, Quang Tuyen, Vo Thu Duc, Tran Manh Duc, used to achieve big awards at the fine art exhibitions of the South Central and Highlands. However, since painter Nguyen Quang Tuyen won a B prize in 2012 (no A prize awarded at that exhibition), Khanh Hoa’s fine art has not won any other big awards at the local exhibitions.

As said by painter Tran Ha, Vice-Chairman of Khanh Hoa Provincial Association of Literature and Arts, the Arts Council of Vietnam Fine Arts Association has always preferred new elements. However, most of the senior painters of Khanh Hoa have lost interest in competitions; meanwhile, the province’s young painters have still not created outstanding works. The quite painting market has also negatively affected the enthusiasm of the painters. These are some reasons why, in the past years, Khanh Hoa’s painters have not won any big awards.

In order to improve the situation, this year, the provincial Association of Literature and Arts of Khanh Hoa encouraged the painters to create high quality works for the 2017 fine art exhibition of the South Central and Highlands. The fact that 13 paintings were selected to be displayed shows the efforts of Khanh Hoa’s painters. Beside the senior artists, this year’s exhibition also sees the appearance of two young painters of the coastal province, Dinh Thanh Hai and Bui Trung Chinh.

In recent years, there have not been many fine art contests and exhibitions held in Khanh Hoa as before. The painters, especially young ones have not had enough playgrounds to exchange and improve their competence. “We, young painters, need exhibitions to introduce our paintings to the public. Therefore, we hope that the provincial Association of Literature and Arts will organize more fine art exhibitions,” said painter Bui Trung Chinh.

The development of tourism is one of the favorable conditions to promote the development of cultural activities, among them is fine art. However, although the tourism in Khanh Hoa has been developing strongly, the province’s fine art has been facing many difficulties. Therefore, it requires solutions to promote the development of Khanh Hoa’s fine art, such as holding annual exhibitions; encouraging painters to hold individual or group exhibitions; forming clubs of young painters; and encouraging the creativity in painting.
