Birth anniversary of Dr. Alexandre Yersin celebrated in Khanh Hoa

The Association of Admirers of Dr. Alexandre Yersin in Khanh Hoa in association with Yasaka-Saigon-Nhatrang Hotel hold a ceremony to mark the 154th anniversary of Dr. Alexandre Yersin and 25th year of establishment of Khanh Hoa’s Association of Admirers of Dr. Alexandre Yersin. Nguyen Dac Tai, Deputy Chairman of Khanh Hoa Provincial People’s Committee; former leaders of Khanh Hoa and representatives of some international organizations attended the ceremony.

 

 

Dr. Alexandre Yersin is a Swiss-born French bacteriologist, but he spent most of his life in Khanh Hoa. He explored Lam Vien Plateau, where he recommended building a town (the future Da Lat). Dr. Alexandre Yersin discovered bubonic plague bacillus; manufactured the first ever anti-plague serum. He is also one of the discoverers of exotoxin produced by the diphtheria bacillus.  

 

Dr. Alexandre Yersin is the founder of Nha Trang Pasteur Institute and the first Headmaster of Hanoi Medical University.

 

 

At the ceremony, the attendees reviewed the life and career of Dr. Alexandre Yersin and activities of Khanh Hoa’s Association of Admirers of Dr. Alexandre Yersin. 

 

On the occasion of 25th year of establishment of Khanh Hoa’s Association of Admirers of Dr. Alexandre Yersin, the Prime Minister offered certificate of merit to Le Thanh Xuan, Deputy Chairman of Khanh Hoa’s Association of Admirers of Dr. Alexandre Yersin. Khanh Hoa Provincial People’s Committee gave certificate of merit to the association and six individuals having recently contributed much to the society.

 

 

The Khanh Hoa’s Association of Admirers of Dr. Alexandre Yersin also gave Yersin Awards to six good all-round students of Yersin Junior High School (Nha Trang) and Yersin Junior High School (Suoi Cat Commune, Cam Lam District).
