The film of director Luong Dinh Dung, “Father and Son”, has recently selected to represent Vietnam at the 2018 Oscars.
“Father and Son” is the debut film of director Luong Dinh Dung. It also featured Vietnamese cinematographer Ly Thai Dung, Korean composer Lee Dong Jun (Taegukgi), and French film editor Julie Béziau.
The “father” is played by Ngo The Quan who had acted in only two films before; the “son” is played by Do Trong Tan, a child from Viet Tri SOS Children’s Village.
Although the film was not given big awards at the Vietnam’s film awards, it has won many international awards, such as “Best Foreign Feature” and “Special Jury Awards for Outstanding Cinematography” (2017 Arizona International Film Festival); “Indie Spirit Best Story Line Award” (2017 Boston International Film Festival), “Best Narrative Feature” (17th Asian Pacific American Film Festival); “Best Cinematography” (17th Milano Film Festival).
