Reportedly, there were, at first, 70 contestants selected for the semi-final round; however, seven among them withdrew from the pageant. In order to prepare well for the semi-finals and finals, 63 semi-finalists took part in a 10-volume reality show named “I am Miss Universe Vietnam”, broadcast weekly on VTV9 on Saturdays at 9:35pm since September 30. During the program, the contestants were trained and instructed by Miss Universe Vietnam 2015 Pham Huong, first runner-up of Miss Universe Vietnam 2008 Vo Hoang Yen, second runner-up of Miss Universe Vietnam 20015 Le Hang, makeup experts and fashion designers.

Through the skill-training programs, the contestants have improved their skills in stage performance, communication as well as learned to dress better. After four volumes, Chu Thi Minh Hang (won “I am elegant” competition), Hoang Thuy and Mau Thuy (stood out in “I look stylish” competition) have been among the most outstanding beauties. However, the results of the semi-final round will mostly depend on the contestants’ performances in Nha Trang.
After arriving in Nha Trang, 63 semi-finalists had a sightseeing tour in the city. They visited and joined activities at some attractions of Nha Trang, such as Diamond Bay Golf & Villa, Hon Chong tourist site, Ponagar Temple, Nha Trang Cathedral, Dam Market, and Nha Trang Center. After the sightseeing tour, the contestants take part in activities, competitions, and training program to prepare for the semi-final night held at the Crown Center, Diamond Bay City, Nha Trang on November 4.
Apart from the competitions of the contestants, the semi-final night of Miss Universe Vietnam 2017 will feature the performances of some famous singers of Vietnam like Son Tung M-TP, Toc Tien, Ho Trung Dung, Bich Phuong and S.T. The music items have still been not revealed but promise to bring an energetic and lively atmosphere to the semi-final night.

Miss Universe Vietnam 2015 Pham Huong and MC Anh Tuan will MC the night. “This is the first time the semi-final night of Miss Universe Vietnam has been organized based on the international format; accordingly, the reigning beauty queen of this pageant will MC the competition. This is my honor, and I wish to be able to inspire the contestants at such an important competition,” said Pham Huong.
After the semi-final night, 45 contestants will be selected to enter the final round also held in Nha Trang from November 5 to December 2. The jury includes Headmaster of John Robert Powers Vietnam Vo Thi Xuan Trang; Doctor of Anthropometry Le Diep Linh; second runner-up of Miss Vietnam Global 2009 Huong Giang; first runner-up of Miss Vietnam 2010 Hoang My; fashion designer Thuan Viet; MC Phan Anh; photographer Samuel Hoang.
