Preserving cultural heritages of ethnic minorities

Preserving and promoting the cultural heritages of ethnic minorities have always been the concern of the society. Preserving and promoting the cultural heritages of ethnic minorities have always been the concern of the society. Khanh Hoa Provincial People’s Committee recently approved a scheme on preserving and promoting the typical traditional cultural heritages of the ethnic minorities throughout the province in the 2017-2020 period.

According to the scheme, the typical cultural heritages of Raglai people, T’rin people, and Êđê people in six localities (Ninh Hoa, Khanh Son, Khanh Vinh, Dien Khanh, Cam Lam, and Cam Ranh) will be inventoried, preserved and displayed. Reportedly, this is the first time Khanh Hoa has made a scheme on preserving and promoting the typical cultural heritages of ethnic minorities. The scheme aims to call for the contributions of the whole society to preserve, promote, and introduce these heritages to the public, especially the young generation.

The focus of the scheme are promoting the efficiency of the human resource in inventorying, collecting, preserving, displaying, and propagandizing about the typical traditional cultural heritages of the ethnic groups in the province. The other task of the scheme is checking the display of the heritages at the provincial Museum in order to make appropriate changes and improvement to displayed objects. The ways of introducing and promoting the heritages will also be diversified. For example, the heritages will be exhibited and introduced to the teachers and pupils at schools over the province.

The funds for implementing the scheme include stage budget and other sources of funding. In the last years, Khanh Hoa preserved and promoted quite well the values of the cultural heritages in general and cultural heritages of the ethnic minorities in particular. The province’s cultural section assembled information, carried out researches and published two-volume book on Raglai epic; organized scientific seminar on the traditional culture of Raglai people; restored the grave-leaving rite of the Raglai and river wharf rite of the Êđê. The provincial Museum held many exhibitions featuring the cultural objects of the ethnic groups in the province. Many items of Raglai and Êđê people were performed at the musical and cultural programs, public art festivals, etc.

The fact that Khanh Hoa Provincial People’s Committee approved the scheme will help the province to preserve and promote the typical traditional cultural heritages of the ethnic minorities more comprehensively. “We hope that this scheme will have a positive impact on the community, especially young people so that the community will be more aware of preserving the traditional culture,” said traditional cultural researcher Mau Quoc Tien.
