Le Duc Vinh, Deputy Secretary of Khanh Hoa Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of Khanh Hoa Provincial People’s Committee, lately agreed to form the Directing Committee of Khanh Hoa Museum building project. The new museum needs to harmonize with the province’s traditional history and culture.
New museum is necessary
The existing provincial museum of Khanh Hoa is actually the building built in the French colonial period, established in 1979, covering an area of 2,700 square meters. At present, there are nearly 10,000 documents and artifacts of various historical periods are being preserved at the museum, in which there are many precious and rare objects, such as jewellery, jar burials, bronze drums, Champa statues, corpus of inscriptions of Champa, ancient money, and cannons. Additionally, the museum is also displaying many documents and objects about Khanh Hoa Provincial Party Committee and Khanh Hoa people throughout the two resistance wars against the French colony and US empire.
However, the two small exhibition rooms of the museum can only display part of these documents and artifacts. Meanwhile, the outdoor space is not large enough to display large artifacts and organize thematic activities. Because the museum has made use of the old building built a long time ago, the renovation is not feasible. Besides, the current facilities of the museum have also not been good enough to preserve the documents and artifacts.
Therefore, it is essential to build a new museum in order to well preserve all the cultural and historical heritages of Khanh Hoa; create an attractive place for tourists in Nha Trang, Khanh Hoa.
New museum needs to meet modern standards
The new museum is planned to be located at the area of the old Nha Trang Airport, covering 1.4ha as approved by Khanh Hoa Provincial People’s Committee. In order to prepare well for the project of the new museum, Nguyen Dac Tai, Deputy Chairman of Khanh Hoa Provincial People’s Committee, and leaders of the provincial Museum visited some large museums in the country and some local museums; consulted many experts like Associate Professor, PhD Nguyen Can Huy, former Director of Vietnam Museum of Ethnology; and historian Le Van Lan, etc.
“Khanh Hoa’s new provincial museum needs to be a modern one which meets the requirements for preserving, displaying, scientific researching as well as sightseeing,” said Le Chi Huong, Director of Khanh Hoa Provincial Museum.
Reportedly, the provincial Department of Culture and Sports of Khanh Hoa suggested some ideas like organizing an architectural design competition and consulting foreign experts on the exhibition.
Le Duc Vinh requested that the new museum project has to ensure the harmony of the inside and outside space, and that the works outside the museum need to be appropriate with the museum’s activities.
