In the 2018 calendar season, the calendar producers continue to make beautiful calendars themed on Vietnam’s culture, folk stories, folk games, cultural heritages, etc. The fact that the producers have chosen these themes to make calendars shows that people have been attaching special importance to the preservation of traditional culture.
At present, the 2018 calendars are being sold at many bookstores in Nha Trang. This year, An Hao Company introduces a set of wall calendars consisting 365 pages with pictures about the landscapes, nature, architectural works, cultural heritages, festivals, custom, arts, life, costume, food, traditional trades, and notables of Vietnam. Through the calendars, people can know more about the typical cultural features of the three regions in Vietnam. Reportedly, the information displayed in this calendar set was given by Associate Professor, PhD Doan Thi Thu Van, former Head of Department of Philology of Ho Chi Minh City University of Pedagogy; the pictures were drawn by painter Le Phi Hung, lecturer of Ho Chi Minh City University of Fine Arts, and his coworkers.
In addition, An Hao Company also released two sets of calendars themed on folk stories and folk games. These calendars display graphic drawings depicting 53 typical folk stories and 105 folk games of Vietnam.
The theme of culture is also the main selection of some other calendar producers. For example, Song Hanh Investment Advertising JSC made a set of calendars with 365 pages depicting the famous cultural monuments, landscapes and intangible cultural heritages of Vietnam, such as Hue Imperial Citadel, Thang Long Imperial Citadel, Citadel of the Ho Dynasty, My Son Sanctuary, Hoi An Ancient Town, Phong Nha – Ke Bang, Dong Van Karst Plateau UNESCO Global Geopark, Hue Imperial Court Music, Gong musical instrument of people in the Highlands, and “đờn ca tài tử” (Southern amateur music). Spring Calendar Phuong Nam Company released calendars about “đồng dao” (children’s folk songs).
Apart from the culture-themed calendars, calendars on herbal remedies, tea ceremony, geomancy, etc. are also seen at the 2018 calendar market.
At present, there is a slight increase in price of the 2018 calendars, approximately up 5% compared to the 2017 season. The prices vary from VND200,000 to VND650,000 depending on the size and brand. Many bookstores in Nha Trang are offering reductions of up to 30% to bulk buyers.
