Prior to and during 2018 Tet days, Khanh Hoa Province in general and Nha Trang in particular organized numerous activities to create a vibrant atmosphere for the locals and tourists in the first days of Lunar New Year.

One of the most outstanding cultural activities held on the occasion of Lunar New Year 2018 in Khanh Hoa was the live videoconference to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Mau Than General Offensive and Uprising in Spring 1968. The videoconference took place at four locations, including Nha Trang City, Dien Khanh District, Ninh Hoa Town, and Spratly Town (Spratly Island District) on February 12. Within the framework of the videoconference, there were many music items about the general offensive and uprising, love for country and people performed by Hai Dang Song and Dance Troop.

The videoconference also included the exchange with the veterans who took part in the battle and the civilians who gave supports to the soldiers. Through the program, some people in the mainland had opportunities to talk with their relatives who are living and working on the Spratly Islands.

The arts units in Khanh Hoa also prepared many programs to serve the locals and tourists during Lunar New Year 2018. The New Year activities started from February 7, and the most eventful period was from February 15 to 20. On February 15, the artists of Khanh Hoa Provincial Traditional Arts Theatre, provincial Cultural Center and Hai Dang Song and Dance Troop brought the locals and tourists in Nha Trang a lively welcoming-Lunar-New-Year program at 2-4 Square, lasting nearly four hours.

The 2-4 Square was also the venue of many other cultural programs, such as music programs on February 18, 20 by Hai Dang Song and Dance Troop; Bài Chòi performance and extracts from the folk theatrical art forms by the artists of Khanh Hoa Provincial Traditional Arts Theatre on February 16, 19. Other programs included performances of organ, piano, “đờn ca tài tử” (traditional improvisational chamber music), folk songs, folk music, unicorn-lion-dragon dance, and street arts; introduction on cultural works and authors; exhibitions on ornamental creatures, calligraphy, and paintings.

Additionally, Hai Dang Song and Dance Troop also organized programs to serve people in Khanh Son District, Khanh Vinh District, Dien Khanh District, and the Spratly Islands.

These activities partly helped the locals and tourists in Nha Trang, Khanh Hoa to enjoy the fresh and vibrant atmosphere of Lunar New Year. Taran Tatiana, a tourist from Russia visiting Nha Trang for the first time on Lunar New Year 2018, said that she knew more about the cultural characteristics of Vietnamese during Tet days through the arts programs.
