Hundreds of ethnic people representing thirty-two ethnic groups in Khanh Hoa Province recently gathered and exchanged with each other through the activities marking the Vietnamese Ethnic Groups’ Cultural Day 2018.

On the occasion of the Vietnamese Ethnic Groups’ Cultural Day, the ethnic people across Khanh Hoa often prepare many activities to celebrate the event. This year’s event was organized in Ninh Hoa Town in April 19-20 with larger scale and more activities. This is an occasion for the people over the province to meet other people from other ethnic communities and learn their cultural characteristics.

Taking part in this event, the participants played many folk games such as shooting crossbow, walking on stilts, and cross-country running; performed typical music items of their community. The event also included an area displaying and selling the specialties of the localities. These activities helped the public to know more about the culture of the ethnic communities in the localities.

According to Nguyen Thanh Ha, Vice-Chairman of Ninh Hoa Town People’s Committee, Ninh Hoa Town has 16 ethnic groups with 5,123 minority ethnic people. Each ethnic group has their own typical characteristics of culture, custom, practices, belief, which have contributed to the diverse culture of Ninh Hoa Town. Over the last few years, the sports and culture movement of the ethnic groups in Ninh Hoa has developed quite well. Some traditional folk sports and games have been restored and promoted through the local festivals.

As said by Le Van Hoa, Deputy Director of Khanh Hoa Provincial Department of Culture and Sports, over many years of organization, the Vietnamese Ethnic Groups’ Cultural Day has become a familiar event where the ethnic communities in the province can perform their abilities in sports, games and music. The event has also enhanced the relationship among the ethnic communities and helped the local authorities to review the preservation and promotion of traditional culture in the localities.
