The Ministry of Information and Communications in association with Khanh Hoa Provincial People’s Committee and Vietnam Post lately organized a ceremony at the Naval Academy (No. 30 Tran Phu Street, Nha Trang) to issue the first special stamp set conveying message about love for national sea and islands.

The stamp set consists of four stamps depicting four precious and rare sea creatures living in Vietnamese waters, which are nautilus pompilius, trochus niloticus, tridacna maxima, and mauritia scurra. Painter To Minh Trang, designer of the stamp set, painted these sea creatures with oil pain on canvas, creating a artistic rendering of the life in the sea. The stamps are circulated in the public postal network from the launching date until December 31, 2019.

The stamp set has attracted the interest of many stamp collectors in the country. Dinh Duc Tam, member of Lam Dong Provincial Stamp Association, said that the design and quality of the stamps were not inferior to the foreign stamps. Tam went to Nha Trang to take part in the launching ceremony and purchase the stamps.

According to Nguyen Dac Tai, Deputy Chairman of Khanh Hoa Provincial People’s Committee, and Dong Luong Son, Chairman of Khanh Hoa Stamp Association, the newly issued stamp set bears a message about the love for the nation and the national sea and islands of Vietnamese people; reflects the diversity of the sea creatures in Vietnamese waters. Additionally, the wide circulation of these stamps will help to convey the message on marine environmental protection and to promote the image of Vietnam’s sea and islands.

Reportedly, the three stamp sets of the sea and islands of Vietnam were planned to be issued from 2018 to 2022 by the Ministry of Information and Communications in order to help the promotion of the socio-economic strengths of the national sea and islands. Specifically, the first stamp set of the sea creatures is issued in 2018; the second one about Vietnam’s coast guard boats will be launched in 2020; the issue of the last stamp set themed on endemic animals is scheduled for 2022.

On the occasion of the launching of the special stamp set, Vietnam Post issued a set of postcards with stamps affixed on them, themed about the Spratly Islands. This postcard set was given to the soldiers and civilians living on the Spratly Islands. Besides, Vietnam Post also cooperated with the stamp associations across the country to issue individual stamps about the sea and islands of Vietnam.

Also at the launching ceremony, Vietnam Post sold the oil paintings which are the original design of the stamp set to a stamp collector. The VND100 million proceeds from the selling of the paintings were given to the soldiers and civilians living on the Spratly Island District.
