Nurturing children's love of reading

The book storytelling contest for children is an activity has been organized and maintained for many years by Khanh Hoa Provincial Department of Culture and Sports. Through the contest, the organization committee wants to nurture the love of reading among children; raise the awareness about the reading culture; form the habit of reading; help to improve the children’s storytelling skills; promote the reading and storytelling activities in schools and libraries. The contest is also a meaningful and useful for the children in summer.
 
The 2018 book storytelling contest for children of Khanh Hoa will take place at the provincial library on July 12. The contest opens for the children aged 6 to 11 and teenagers from 12 to 15 of the primary and junior high schools across the province. This year’s contest is themed “I love Khanh Hoa”, which requires the participants to tell stories about the customs, traditions, folk beliefs, landscape, tourist attractions, war heroes and examples of building the country; and draw the lessons learned from these stories.  

 

 
From the contest launch until July 4, each participant needs to enroll in the contest and submit a story to tell within a maximum time of ten minutes around the theme of the contest. Each local library and cultural and sports center can submit two to four entries for both age groups.
 
The participants are encouraged to make their performances more attractive and interesting by using costumes, props, and music. The performances will be judged on the participants’ presentation, style, and meaning of the stories. 
 
There will be 32 individual prizes awarded to the children and teenagers who have outstanding performances and three collective prizes for excellent units.
