A school book fair was held at Tran Nhat Duat Junior High School (Nha Trang) on April 16. In the playtime, many pupils visited the book fair to choose their favorite books. Huyen Trinh, a seventh-grade pupil, chose a novel of Sherlock Holmes. She said that she did not often go to bookstores. She read some first pages of the novel of Sherlock Holmes at her school book fair and found it interesting. Therefore, she decided to buy it. Some of her friends also found their favorites at the book fair.
The school book fairs of Khanh Hoa Book Publishing Company started in November 2018 and have been organized around every two weeks. The school book fairs were so far held at iSchool Nha Trang, Thai Nguyen Junior High School, Nguyen Hien Junior High School, Tran Quoc Toan Junior High School, Yersin Junior High School, Tran Nhat Duat Junior High School, Pham Van Dong High School, and Tran Cao Van Junior High School. Each school book fair lasts two days or more depending on schools.

As said by Phan Thanh Chung, principal of Nguyen Hien Junior High School, the school also held book introduction and encouraged pupils to borrow books from the school’s library; however, it did not meet the expectation. The school book fair program of Khanh Hoa Book Publishing Company is a meaningful activity to encourage a love of books and reading in pupils. The school showed their support through extending the book fair by one day. Chung also hoped that the program would be carried out at a larger scale and more often. Reportedly, Khanh Hoa Book Publishing Company also aims to enhance the company’s image through social activities.
The school book fairs open before the classes start and in the playtime in order not to affect the pupils’ learning. Most of the displayed books are literary books, children’s books, science books, and reference books, etc. The book fairs are decorated with attractive images and information about the fairs, books and theme of the fairs. The books and other products at the book fairs at discount are sold at a discount of 10% to 20%. Additionally, some publishers provide special offers to the buyers. Each book fair drew around 70 percent of pupils of each school and received good response and support from the pupils and schools’ leaders.
Apart from the school book fairs, Khanh Hoa Book Publishing Company carried out other activities in response to the Vietnam Book Day 2019; offered discounted books and products; gave bookcases and books to the pupils at the remote and disadvantaged areas, and so on. Pham Duy Loc, Director of Khanh Hoa Provincial Department of Information and Communications, said in a statement that if Khanh Hoa Book Publishing Company keeps organizing the school book fairs, the company should change the way the fairs are organized to attract more pupils and get better results.
