106 contestants from the provinces and cities of the central and highland region converged in Nha Trang to participate in a recent music contest for people with disabilities. Each contestant with their own disadvantageous circumstance and efforts brought the contest many emotional performances.
This the second time the Vietnam Patronizing Association for People with Disabilities and Orphans has held music contest for people with disabilities. Under the theme “Heart of aspirations”, this year’s contest takes place in three regions: northern, southern, central and highland regions. The most excellent teams of each region will qualify for the national contest which is slated to take place in Hanoi in mid-June.
The contest is really a meaningful playground for people with disabilities. The contest conveys a message that people with disabilities can overcome their circumstances and obstacles to achieve good results in any spheres, according to Luong Phan Cu, Chairman of Vietnam Patronizing Association for People with Disabilities and Orphans.
During the contest in Nha Trang, 106 contestants performed 33 music items praising the country, homeland, Uncle Ho, love, compassion, and the typical cultural characteristics of the regions over the country. The image of contestant Vo Minh Hung of Binh Thuan Province playing guitar and singing emotionally while sitting on wheelchair left a good impression on the audience. The member of Khanh Hoa team had also prepared well for their performances. One of Khanh Hoa team’s performances was given gold medal.
Nghe An team was the most excellent one at the contest of the central and highland region. All three their performances were highly appreciated and were offered gold medals. Among the three gold-winning performances of Nghe An team was the dance item performed by the deaf children from Nghe An Education and Vocational Training Center for People with Disabilities. As said by Vuong Lien, teacher of Nghe An Education and Vocational Training Center for People with Disabilities, the center did not have art teacher. Therefore, the teachers of the center learned from the internet and taught the children to dance. It was not easy to impart the instructions to the children and help them to feel the meaning of the performance through sign language.
The contest was a useful playground for people with disabilities where they could exchange and share their stories, aspirations and efforts as well as encourage each other to overcome disadvantageous circumstances.
As said by People’s Artist Vi Hoa, head of organization committee, although the performances gained different results, the biggest award was that each contestant did their best to show their interests.
