The National Non-professional Dance Contest is organized every three years to help preserve and promote the folk dances of the communities and areas throughout the country. The 2019 contest was organized by the Department of Basic Culture (under the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism) in Ninh Thuan Province, revolving the topic namely sea and islands – heart of Vietnam. More than 600 non-professional dance artists and actors from 20 provinces and cities over the country joined this year’s edition. The participants showed a creative combination between folk and modern dance in their performances.

The artists and actors of Khanh Hoa Center of Culture and Cinema took part in the 2019 National Non-professional Dance Contest with four performances, which were choreographed by artists Tran Duc Ha, Ai Quoc, Ha Van Hao, and Vo Nguyen Thanh Nhan and reflected the local cultural characteristics, love for homeland, national sea and islands, and history of the revolutionary struggle for national liberation. The artists and actors of Khanh Hoa practiced hard and prepared for the contest in nearly one month.

Each performance of Khanh Hoa art team reflected a typical characteristic of a region in the province, such as worship of Thien Y Ana Holy Mother and sea culture in Khanh Hoa. The cultural integration between highland region and coastal region in Khanh Hoa Province was also presented in these performances.

At the end of the contest, Khanh Hoa art team was given one gold medal (for the performance about the culture of highland region) and two silver medals (for the performances about the worship of Thien Y Ana Holy Mother and national sea). These prizes were beyond the team’s expectation, helping them to be one of the top eight teams at the 2019 contest.
