The province in recent years has focused on supervising and implementing many activities in this sphere, for example practical researches, collection, restoration, preservation, and ranking of cultural heritages, and so on. In 2009, Khanh Hoa had 87 ranked monuments; 13 monuments among them were nationally-ranked ones. In 2019, the number of ranked monuments over the province is 195; among them are 16 national monuments, three national intangible cultural heritages, and one intangible cultural heritage of the humanity. The province inventories these monuments and carries out timely restoration and embellishment every year.
Khanh Hoa’s cultural sector has been carrying out the scheme of preserving and promoting the cultural characteristics of the ethnic communities across the province; has invested nearly VND1.7 billion in equipping “mã la” (a type of music instrument) for the cultural activities and festivals of Raglai people. The plan for renovation and embellishment of Dien Khanh Ancient Citadel, worth nearly VND 75.7 billion, are being implemented. Besides, the province has invested VND4.4 billion in improving the road to the tomb of Dr. Alexandre Yersin; VND832 million and VND380 million in preserving and promoting the values of intangible cultural heritages of Bài Chòi and Whale Worshipping Festival respectively.
Additionally, the provincial sector of culture has been implementing the plan for researching and compiling guidance materials for the rituals performed at the villages’ festivals; plan for inventorying, collecting, preserving, displaying, and propagandizing for the local typical cultural heritages of the ethnic groups over Khanh Hoa, worth VND47 million; plan for preserving and promoting the traditional costumes of Vietnamese ethnic groups.
Khanh Hoa Provincial Department of Culture and Sports has paid attention on carrying out the researches to preserve and uphold the local villages’ cultural characteristics, worship of Tutelary God, sea and island culture. Many traditional and folk art shows are often organized to sever the locals and tourists in festivals and on weekends.
Khanh Hoa has used the revenues from the monuments effectively for the upkeep and upholding of the monuments, according to Nguyen Tuan Dung, Deputy Director of Khanh Hoa Provincial Monument Preservation Center.
Up to now, Khanh Hoa has restored and embellished eight national level monuments with a total investment of more than VND 47.3 billion. 39 provincial monuments were renovated from 2013 to 2017. The provincial Department of Culture and Sports proposed a renovation plan for 30 monuments in the 2018-2020 period, using the revenue from monument entrance fees.
Reportedly, the number of visitors and proceeds from Ponagar Temple and Hon Chong tourist site has increased year-over-year. Specifically, the temple and the tourist site received 722,000 visitors and had a revenue of VND6.2 billion in 2010 and more than 2.1 visitors and revenue of more than VND45.3 billion in the first six months of 2019.
